16 days of activism against gender-based violence

We believe everyone should live safely and without fear of violence or abuse.
From 25 November to 10 December, we are joining organisations around the world in supporting the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence.
The campaign begins on the International Day of Elimination of Violence Against Women (25 November) and ends on World Human Rights Day (10 December). This year’s theme is – Unite to end digital violence against all women and girls – raising awareness of the growing problem of online abuse.
Online and digital spaces should empower women and girls, but what can start small, on screens, a message, a comment, or a post – can quickly spiral into a torrent of threats and violence in real life.
Key facts:
According to the UN Women website:
- 1 in 3 women experience gender-based violence in their lifetime
- 16-58% of women and girls face digital violence
- 90-95% of deepfake videos are sexual images of women
