ASB Awareness Week 18-24 November

ASB Awareness Week is a campaign led by community safety experts Resolve, to tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) and keep people safe.
#MakingCommunitiesSafer aims to encourage communities to take a stand against ASB and highlights actions you can take if you’re experiencing it.
YouGov research commissioned by Resolve found that – almost 1 in 5 people have had to consider moving home because of the impact ASB was having on them; 1 in 10 have actually moved. Despite this, over half of those surveyed who were either a victim or witness of ASB did not report the ASB.
At Brighter Places we take ASB seriously. It can impact your life in many ways and can cause alarm and distress. If you or another member of your household is experiencing ASB please tell us. We will work with you in confidence to help you feel safe and secure in your home and your community.
What is ASB?
ASB covers a variety of behaviours. It is persistent, ongoing and preventable. Read about what is ASB and what behaviours are not classified as ASB.
Our tenancy agreements have a clause preventing tenants from behaving in this way. It says that if they do, they are putting their tenancy at risk and could be breaking the law.
The three main categories for ASB are:
- Personal ASB is when a person targets a specific individual or group.
- Nuisance ASB is when a person causes trouble, annoyance or suffering to a community.
- Environmental ASB is when a person’s actions affect the wider environment, such as public spaces or buildings.
How we support you
We have a dedicated ASB team whowork in partnership with local organisations to tackle ASB. We meet regularly with the police and local councils to find solutions.
Our partners are:
- SARI, who provide free and confidential support for anyone who is a victim of hate crime, to tackle racism and inequality. Residents reporting hate crime to us are actioned as high priority. We contact those affected within one day to discuss how we can support them.
- Resolve West, who provide conflict resolution support, also know as mediation. This involves a third person (or mediator) stepping in to help with a dispute to negotiate jointly acceptable resolutions with issues of conflict.
Our ASB Policy has been written with residents, housing officers, SARI, Resolve West and our solicitor. It outlines how we tackle ASB and what you can expect us to do.
Actions we can take to support you include:
- Tenancy warnings
- Good Neighbour Agreements
- Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs) These are often created jointly with the police.
- Court Injunctions
- And, in rare cases eviction. This is a last resort.
Instances of crime or criminal behaviour are dealt with by the Police.
