Equity, diversity and inclusion
We believe that by embracing equity, diversity and inclusion we can create a more inclusive society and unlock the full potential of our workforce.
We empower our teams to bring their whole selves to work, and to use their unique talents and experiences to grow, succeed and contribute to make brighter futures for everyone.
We regularly work with local community schools and colleges to inspire and motivate students about the housing sector.
EDI at Brighter Places 2025-26 update
Watch our EDI video!
It features the people who shape Brighter Places - colleagues, our CEO and Board Chair - talking about what we are doing to make sure everyone feels included and treated fairly now and in the future. It's full of real stories from real people!
Why EDI matters for our customers
As a housing association, we don’t just provide homes – we help build strong, welcoming communities where people feel safe and supported. We believe in:
- providing fair access to housing – everyone should have an equal chance to find and keep a home that suits them
- bringing people together – we want our communities to be friendly, inclusive and free from discrimination
- listening to you – we know that everyone has different needs, and we want to make sure every voice is heard
- better support for everyone – we work hard to remove barriers so every resident can access the services and opportunities they need.
Our Promise
- a workplace where everyone can be themselves
- equal chances for growth and success
- EDI at the heart of everything we do
- strong, inclusive communities
By embracing equity, diversity, and inclusion, we can make life fairer and better for everyone – both in our team and in the communities we serve.

Our EDI policy and strategy

Improving our services for customers equitably and fairly
Our policies make sure all customers can access our service without disadvantage due to disability, protected characteristics, or vulnerability. Also, the customer data we hold helps us tailor our service to the needs and vulnerabilities of every customer.
- Customer data - what we hold and how we use it
We gather customer data as part of our EDI measures to ensure fair and equitable outcomes.
99.7% of customer data fields, including protected characteristics information, are currently complete. A number of customers have not shared their information despite our efforts to collect it.
We use this information tailor our service to the needs and vulnerabilities of every customer when they contact us. For example when they report a repair or make a complaint.
We are starting to include customer vulnerability and protected characteristics into our analysis including complaints, satisfaction data, engagement activities, frequent callers or those customers who rarely interact with us. This will give us a better understanding of whether particular groups of customers experience different levels of service or potentially barriers in accessing our services.
