Green Close litter-pick – a roaring success

Thanks to residents and members of the Brighter Places team – including our friendly Dinosaur aka Housing Officer, Sonia Dalley – Green Close in Horfield is looking brighter after a successful litter-picking event.
“It’s been a brilliant community event. The children worked really hard and their enthusiasm and pride in their community was contagious.
“They collected 11 bags of rubbish and recycling. They enjoyed it so much, they’re doing it again next week!” said Marie Luigi, Community Engagement Officer.
During the event, organised in partnership with Bristol Waste Company, our team got to talk with parents, children and other residents about neighbourhood matters and identified some follow-up activities which Brighter Places will continue to work with residents to develop. Information was also provided to residents about reporting neighbourhood issues to Brighter Places.
Avon and Somerset Police also supported the activity and the PCSO and Neighbourhood Beat Manager helped to litter-pick. There were some good discussions between the police and our team around working more closely together and we committed to working in partnership with residents to support more positive community projects like this one.
The litter-pick finished with a well-earned lunch in the sunshine.
