If you’re looking for affordable ways to keep the kids entertained this May half term – there’s plenty of free or low-cost options available for families.

Many local museums, libraries, and community centres host free family events and craft activities during the half term. Parks and nature reserves make a great day out too. Just pack a picnic and enjoy nature trails and play areas.

When it comes to food, several national chains have some great offers for families. Here are just a few examples. Asda Cafés offer a kids’ meal for 60p throughout May, including half term week.  Morrisons lets kids eat free with every adult meal purchase of £4.50. Ikea meals start from 95p from 11am. Check their websites for terms and conditions.

With a bit of planning, it’s possible to enjoy some quality time together without breaking the bank. Visit your local library or council website to find out what’s happening near you.  Or check social media local listings.

To get you started, we’ve put together a list of cheap activities and places to eat that we’ve found for Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire and Swindon.
