Wheatfield Barns scoops top industry award

We’re really proud to share that Wheatfield Barns has won Residential Development of the Year (Fewer than 100 units) at Insider South West Residential Property Awards 2026.
The community-led sustainable development was also highly commended for Affordable Housing Development of the Year.
The award submission was led by gcp chartered architects, and this recognition reflects the quality of the design and delivery, as well as the shared ambition to create affordable homes that meet local needs.
The judges applauded the landmark community-led scheme comprising 15 certified Passivhaus homes, proving ultra-low energy standards can be delivered at scale whilst remaining within the affordable housing sector. They praised the project’s aesthetics for challenging the typical Cotswold style whilst fitting in seamlessly, and were impressed with the high level of community engagement throughout the scheme, alongside the impressive tenant feedback.
Residents began moving into their new homes at Wheatfield Barns from December 2025 with more households settling in during early 2026. It’s great to see the people putting down roots in their community.

Rachel George head of investment, development and partnerships at Brighter Places who was at the awards ceremony, said:
“The award is a real credit to the hard work, commitment and teamwork shown by everyone involved in bringing Wheatfield Barns to life – from the initial transfer of land from the local landowner and the vision championed by Marshfield Land Trust to the funding, early design and build, to final handover.
We’re delighted to see the development celebrated by industry peers and would like to thank everyone who played a part in its success.”
